Can my switchboard handle an EV charger? (And how load management helps)

Can my switchboard handle an EV charger?

Sometimes yes straight away, sometimes it needs an upgrade — and often we can make it work safely with the right setup.

Need help with an EV charger? Start with our residential EV charger installation page, browse the EV chargers hub, or request a quote.

What we check

  • Space in the switchboard for the correct protection devices
  • Main supply capacity (and what else runs in the home)
  • Condition of the board and existing wiring

Evnex “Home Overload Protection” (load management)

Evnex smart chargers can be configured with home overload protection. In plain English: the charger can automatically turn itself down when the rest of the house is using a lot of power, helping avoid overloads and nuisance trips.

This normally involves a small power sensor installed at the switchboard during installation.

Fastest way to get an answer

Upload a photo of your switchboard and meter box and we’ll tell you what’s required.
